Why my theme doesn’t look like the sample?

Have you ever installed a WordPress theme, and it doesn’t look like the sample theme that they showed?   This is very common.  The reason is that you need to add and configure content, and add data and photos in order for it to look fully populated and like the sample provided.

Let’s take the default theme “Twenty Fourteen” that comes with WordPress.   If you activate this theme, you might see something like …

Making the Twenty Fourteen Theme Look like the Sample

To make the newly install Twenty Fourteen theme look like this we have to …

1.  Add a flyout menu on the left following this tutorial.  With flyout left menu, have the following …

2.  Add a primary menu to the top (see this tutorial).  You get …

3.  Add a featured image to post as described in this tutorial.  And now it looks like …

4. Next set three of your posts as featured post by following this tutorial.  Make sure each of the three posts has its own featured image as well.

And we end up with …

Now it is looking much closer to what the sample show.
