New releases of Joomla and WordPress

WordPress and Joomla are two popular major open-source content management systems.  They are kind of like competitors.  Joomla just released version 1.6 on January 10, 2011 and WordPress just released version 3.1 February 22.

Joomla says that 1.6 is “Rebuilt from the ground up in much of the application”.

WordPress says that 3.1 is “lots of fun” and “WordPress is more of a CMS than ever before”.

So which one to use?  It’s more of a preference really.  And to some extent, it also depends on the type of site that you are building.  I have built sites with both.  I personally prefer WordPress and feel that if you have never used a CMS before, it will be easier to learn.  But you see the question debated on both sides on the forums all the time.
