How to Set Featured Posts in WordPress

In WordPress Twenty Fourteen theme, here is how you can set three featured posts to be display at the top of the home page so that it looks like this…

1.  First you have to set a featured image for each of the three posts.  See this tutorial on how to do that.

2.  Then you have to tag each of your three post with the tag “featured”.

3. How do I know that this is the tag to tag it with.  Because if you go to “WordPress Dashboard -> Appearance -> Customize -> Featured Content”, there is a setting to say which tag to look for when looking for featured image…

This is where you can change the “Tag Name” to something else other than “featured” if you like.   In this example, we have set the layout to Grid, so the front page would look like this…
