My Windows 10 crashed today twice with the “blue screen of death” saying …

“:(
Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart.
We’re just collecting some error info, and then we’ll restart for you. (100% complete)
If you would like to know more, you can search online later for this error:
UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (CmpPCS.sys)”

But the machine never restarted for me.  I had to do a hard reboot by holding down the power button.

In both crashes, it was when my machine is idle and I was away from the computer.

I’m not sure why.  My machine has 32-GB of RAM and fairly new.  So I do not expect it should encounter this kind of problem.  I do have full disk encryption turned on however.

The error said that to learn more about the error, do a web search on it.   When I searched “UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP” I got some results (but mostly for Windows 8).  However, I think it should still apply.

They seem to say something about “connectify”, “minidumps”, memory corruption, bad driver, etc.

Oh well.

It happened again some days later.
