Gmail ignores dots in the front part of your email

Did you know that gmail ignores any dot in the front part (the part before the @ symbol) of the email address.  That means that someone who sends you an email and they inserted a few dots in the username, it will still get to you.  I got an email that was unintentionally came to my inbox.  It had a dot in the username.  But it still got to me.
